Deacs Fall to Clemson in Road Contest

2/3/2019 1:55:00 PM | Men's Basketball

CLEMSON, S.C.- Clemson (13-8, 3-5 ACC) used early momentum and never slowed down en route to a 64-37 victory over Wake Forest on Sunday afternoon at Littlejohn Coliseum. Chaundee Brown was the workhorse for the Deacons with 12 points, while Jaylen Hoard added eight points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Wake Forest (8-13, 1-8 ACC) struggled early on the offensive end as Clemson took a 10-3 lead heading into the first media timeout. After a 5-0 Tiger run, Brown put the Deacs on the board four minutes in with a contested three.

A 14-2 Clemson run pushed the Tigers' lead to 19-5 midway through the first half. Brown and Hoard combined for 16 of the Deacs' 18 points at the half, while Ikenna Smart added two from the line.

Wake opened the scoring in the second half, but Clemson strung together an 11-0 run to more than double its lead 45-20 with 14 minutes to play. The Deacons shot just 21 percent in the second frame and 24 percent for the game, as the Tigers took advantage to close the game 64-37.

The Deacs won the rebounding battle 41-34 , with 18 coming off the offensive glass.

Wake Forest will face a quick turnaround, hosting Pitt on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. The game will air on ESPNU.
