Deacs In Second Place After First Day of Stitch Intercollegiate

CARY, N.C. – The Wake Forest men's golf team opened play Friday at the Stitch Intercollegiate as rain shortened the first day at MacGregor Downs Country Club. The Deacs are tied for second place at 6-under par midway though the second round.
The No. 3 Demon Deacons are tied with No. 20 Liberty at 6-under par, five shots behind No. 21 Louisville who leads at 11-under. With poor weather forecast again for Saturday, the tournament has been shortened to 36 holes, with teams looking to complete their second rounds in the morning.
"Hopefully we will be able to get out there and finish play tomorrow," said head coach Jerry Haas. "We got seven or eight holes left and are five back, so we can only hope to get the opportunity to make a run at the top."
Cameron Young is currently the individual leader at 6-under par. He shot a 4-under 68 in the first round and is 2-under through 10 holes of his second round as he looks for his third victory of the year.
Eric Bae shot a first-round 70 and is at 3-under through 11 holes of the second round, T-3rd on the leaderboard. Eugenio Chacarra is at even par for the tournament after a 1-over 73 in the morning and going 1-under over his first 11 holes of the second round.
Lee Detmer is a 3-over and Parker Gillam is at 4-over to round out the lineup. Kengo Aoshima, playing as individual, is T-2nd at 5-under par after shooting a first round 70 and going 3-under over 10 holes of the second round.
The resumption of the second round is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. If play can't resume, the even will be shortened to an 18-hole event with the Deacs finishing third and Young capturing the individual crown.
