Haynes is the first offensive lineman since Joe Looney in 2012 to be drafted
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest offensive lineman Phil Haynes was selected in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft Saturday (April 27) afternoon as the Seattle Seahawks drafted Haynes with the 124th overall pick.
The Demon Deacons have now had a player drafted for the third consecutive year and seven out of the last eight drafts. For Haynes, he becomes the first offensive lineman drafted since Joe Looney was drafted by San Francisco in the fourth round of the 2012 draft.
Haynes was a second team All-ACC selection in 2018 after serving as a team captain. Haynes started all 13 games as a senior and 47 career games, one shy of the school record for an offensive lineman. Haynes was named to the Associated Press All-Bowl team following Wake Forest's Birmingham Bowl win over Memphis.
As a senior, Haynes was on the field for 1,066 snaps, the fifth-most on the team. He logged three games of 100 or more snaps including a season-best 101 against Tulane and Florida State. A nominee for ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week after grading out at 93 percent with six knockdown blocks at Tulane, Haynes led the Demon Deacon offensive line with 24 knockdown blocks in 2018.
