Wake Forest alum Peyton Perea inked a national team replacement contract with the reigning NWSL champions.
CARY, N.C. -- Wake Forest alum Peyton Perea has signed a national team replacement contract with the North Carolina Courage, the organization announced on Friday.
Perea has been training with the team since the preseason. She and Shannon Horgan were signed to replace Abby Dahlkemper, Crystal Dunn, Jessica McDonald and Sam Mewis, who were named to the U.S. World Cup roster.
"Peyton has pedigree, excellent soccer IQ, and a calming presence on the field," NC Courage head coach Paul Riley said in a release. "She is great positionally and her range of passing is second to none. She has adjusted well to the speed of the professional game and with a big part of our midfield leaving for the World Cup, she will be vital in plugging those holes."
Perea started 53 games at Wake Forest over her four-year career, totaling 12 goals and five assists. She started every game of her senior season as the Deacs reached the round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament.
With the Courage, she rejoins her old Wake Forest teammate, Ally Haran, who signed with the Courage in February.
