PARIS – The Wake Forest women's soccer team capped off an unforgettable international trip with three final days in France.
On Tuesday, the Deacs were greeted by NBC Sports, who talked to members of the team as well as head coach Tony da Luz about the team's international trip and experience at the World Cup. Madison Hammond, Hannah Betfort, Mia Raben and Estelle Laurier were all in attendance to talk about Wake Forest and the trip and opportunities presented to them.
The rest of the team traveled by metro to see the Women's Soccer Game exhibition, which highlighted the history of women's soccer. It was a great opportunity to see the history of the game, how far its come, and how much more work still needs to be done.
The team then departed to the Latin Quarter for some shopping and visits to a handful of museums. The stop was highlighted by a trip to the Conciergerie which started out as a royal residence turned into a prison. Following lunch, the team took a bike tour of Paris followed by a boat tour of Siene River.
Wednesday brought the Deacs to the world-famous Louvre museum, which dates back to the 1200's. The once royal residence became a museum in 1793 and houses one of the most famous paintings, the Mona Lisa. Following a visit to the museum, the team stopped by the Arc de Triomphe, one of the most popular sights in all of Paris.
The Deacs capped the day by taking a bus ride to Normandy and stopping by the beaches along the English Channel.
Thursday, the team's final day in France, was highlighted by the team taking in a World Cup match between the United States and Sweden. It didn't take long for the Deacs to see a goal, as the United States' Lindsey Horan found the back of the net off a corner kick three minutes into the contest. After a dominating half of play, the U.S. extended its lead to 2-0 in the 50th minute on a Sweden own goal off a deflection following Tobin Heath's shot towards net. The U.S. maintained its two-goal lead until the final whistle, securing a spot in the knockout round.
Wake Forest departed France on Friday, connecting through London before arriving in Charlotte.
