Maier will join the Deacs for the upcoming 2019-20 season

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest women's basketball coach Jen Hoover announced Tuesday (April 23) the addition of McKenzie (Mack) Maier to the women's basketball program. Maier will join the Demon Deacons beginning with the upcoming 2019-20 campaign.

"We are thrilled to announce the addition of Mack to our women's basketball family," said Hoover. "She is a tireless worker with the ability to shoot the long-range jumper. Mack's incredible determination, hard work and dedication, along with her high basketball IQ will be a positive influence on our program.

Maier, a native a Parker, Colorado, joins the Deacs following an impressive prep career. She is a four-time All-Conference honoree, with her freshman honor coming from Thunderridge High School, her sophomore year honor from Prairie View High School and her most recent honor from Chaparral High School. During her freshman year, she helped Thunderridge to the Class 5A State Championship. While at Prairie View she led all 5A scorers in 2016-17 with 22 points per game while finishing second in the state in assists.

As a senior, Maier guided her team to a Sweet 16 appearance while leading the team in scoring for a third consecutive season. Maier was selected to play in the Colorado Show All-Star game for the fourth year in a row. Over the course of her four years, Maier averaged 15.5 points and five rebounds and 4.5 assists per game.

Maier competed on the BlueStar U17 National Travel team with the Boulder Rockies, helping her team win the 2016 Nike USJN Championship. For two consecutive years, Maier applied for and was accepted to try out with the USA U17 and U18 national teams.

Successful on and off the court, Maier graduated in the top 10 percent of her class and has been a three-time First Team Academic All-State honoree. Additionally, Maier is a member of the National Honor Society.

The daughter of Douglas, Sr. and the late Susan Maier, McKenzie comes from a long lineage of Demon Deacons. Her father graduated from Wake Forest in 1989 while her uncle, Jack, is a Wake Forest graduate and the creator of the Maier Endowed Athletic Scholarship at Wake Forest. Maier's cousin, Catherine, is a 2018 graduate and her older brother, Doug, Jr., is a rising junior at Wake Forest and just completed his second year as a student manager for the women's basketball team.

"We feel very fortunate getting Mack as she had many other DI offers, but her desire and passion to be a Demon Deacon along with a long family history with Wake Forest were instrumental in her decision to join us."
