Wake Forest's Nick Sciba is one of 30 kickers nationally up for the honor.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest sophomore placekicker Nick Sciba has been named to the Lou Groza Collegiate Placekicker Award preseason watch list by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission.
Sciba is one of 30 players across the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) named to the watch list. Only four kickers from the ACC made the list.
"Nick had a very good freshman year and he is working very hard as he continues to get better," said Wake Forest special teams coach Wayne Lineburg. "As he continues to work hard, good things will happen for him this year."
Sciba is a 5-9, 190-pound sophomore from Clover, S.C. (Clover) who earned Wake Forest's starting placekicker job during preseason camp in 2018. As a true freshman, Sciba converted all 50 PAT attempts and 19-of-22 field goal tries. He ended the 2018 season on a streak of having converted 11 consecutive field goal attempts. Sciba's 107 points scored last year and his 19 field goals were both school freshman records. In 2018, Sciba was the fourth-most accurate freshman field goal kicker in the nation, having converted 86.4 of his attempts.
Wake Forest will play its Opening Night game against Utah State at 8 p.m. on Friday, August 30 at BB&T Field.
