Wake Forest senior Bruno Lapa is one of 36 student-athletes selected to the watch list which recognizes the top player in the country.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Wake Forest senior Bruno Lapa was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy watch list, United Soccer Coaches and the Missouri Athletic Club announced on Thursday afternoon.
Lapa was one of 36 men's soccer student-athletes selected to the watch list, including one of just six semifinalists for the award returning from a season ago.
The MAC Hermann Trophy, presented by World Wide Technology, is the most prestigious individual award in college soccer and is presented annually to the most outstanding male and female players of the year. This year's winners will be announced in early January at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.
"Bruno dedicated himself to his craft last year and went from a reserve to one of the best players in the country," head coach Bobby Muuss said. "Now, as a senior, it will be even more important for him to take a leadership role and continue working hard to improve every day."
In 2018, Lapa was named the ACC Midfielder of the Year and was a consensus first team All-American. He totaled 29 points on 10 goals and nine assists, including netting four game-winning goals.
Demon Deacons have claimed three total MAC Hermann Trophies: 2017 (Jon Bakero), 2016 (Ian Harkes) and 2008 (Marcus Tracy).
Lapa and the Deacs open the 2019 regular season on Aug. 30 against UCF. The Deacs play a pair of exhibitions prior to that: at Furman (Aug. 18) and vs. Army West Point (Aug. 24).
