WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest women's cross country team took third place in a 22-team field on Friday (Sept. 20) at the Coast-to-Coast Beantown race held at Franklin Park in Jamaica Plain, Mass.
Sophomore Elise Wright led the Demon Deacons with an eighth place overall individual finish in 17:25 over the 3.1K course. Freshman Madeline Rehm was second in 17:52 and senior Hannah Brookover took third in 17:54. Sophomore Meredith Helton ran the course in 18:04 to finish 27th overall with senior Johanna Schulz placing 33rd in 18:12.
Also competing for the Deacons were Amy Harding-Delooz who was 39th in 18:17 and Isabelle Dutranoit who finished in 18:18 to take 43rd place.
Syracuse won the team title while Boston College was second. The Deacons finished ahead of fourth place Harvard and fifth place Georgia Tech.
"I thought we ran a good, solid race," said head coach John Hayes. "We still have some runners we need to add to the line-up but our young runners stepped up today. Madeline ran a tremendous race, Elise was really good and Hannah ran great."
"Today was a great day for our team," said assistant coach Ashley Botham. "We talked with the team and told them that top three would be a great day and a top five finish would be a good day. We accomplished our goal and it was a great day and a good race for the midway point of the season."
The Deacons have not yet added 2018 All-ACC and All-Southeast runner Samantha Halvorsen to the line-up as she recovers from an injury.
"Hopefully we'll have her back for the (Nuttycombe Invitational) race in Madison, Wisc. in four weeks," said Botham.
