Newman, Surratt Receive ACC Weekly Honors

Jamie Newman was named the Quarterback of the Week and Sage Surratt earned Receiver of the Week honors.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest quarterback Jamie Newman and wide receiver Sage Surratt have been named as ACC Players of the Week for the opening weekend.
Newman was named the Quarterback of the Week and Surratt earned Receiver of the Week honors.
Newman, a 6-4, 230-pound redshirt junior from Graham, N.C., posted career highs with 34 completions in 47 attempts and 401 yards passing in leading Wake Forest to a 38-35 win over Utah State on August 30. He threw three touchdown passes including the game-winner to Kendall Hinton with 1:08 to play in the game. Newman added 36 yards rushing for a career-high 437 total offense yards.
Surratt, a 6-3, 215-pound redshirt sophomore from Lincolnton, N.C., had seven receptions for a career-high 158 yards and one touchdown in the win over Utah State. Surratt caught a 22-yard scoring pass from Newman for Wake's first score of the night. Late in the game, Surratt had a 70-yard catch and run that left the ball at the Utah State one with under two minutes to play. The Deacons then scored the go-ahead touchdown seconds later.
Wake Forest, 1-0 on the season, will travel to play Rice on Friday, Sep. 6 in Houston. The Demon Deacons return home to face North Carolina in a non-conference game at BB&T Field on Friday, Sept. 13.
