GREENSBORO, N.C. – Wake Forest had five selections to the 2019 All-ACC Women's Soccer Academic Team, the league announced on Tuesday morning. It marked the third consecutive year that the Demon Deacons had at least five honorees on the team.
Graduate student Hayley Younginer, senior Madison Hammond, juniors Hulda Arnarsdottir and Hannah Betfort and sophomore Giovanna DeMarco were named to the team. Hammond and DeMarco both earned the honor for the second-straight season, while the other three were honored for the first time in their career.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
"I am really proud of these players," said head coach Tony da Luz. "They exemplify what a true student-athlete can accomplish through hard work and self discipline."
Younginer, who joined the Deacons in 2019 as a graduate student after playing as an undergraduate at Wofford, had six goals and three assists while starting every game for Wake Forest last season. She is earning her Masters in Business Management.
Hammond started all 18 games during her senior season. She earned second-team All-ACC accolades after posting three goals and four assists. An English major, she also earned Academic All-District honors from CoSIDA this year.
Arnarsdottir led Wake Forest in scoring in 2019 with eight goals and two assists. She is majoring in Psychology.
Betfort started 16 games as a defender during her junior season, leading the team in assists with five while also helping the Deacons post five shutouts. She is studying Health & Exercise Science.
DeMarco had two goals and one assist during her sophomore season to earn the accolade for the second straight season.
