Paving the Way
Benzinger was a three-year starter and four-year letterman at offensive tackle for the Deacons. The Williamston, Mass. native started the final 38 games of his career and earned an invitation to the East-West Shrine game, helping pave the way to a 31-27 East win. Benzinger was named honorable mention All-ACC following the 2019 season.
A four-year starter at left tackle, Herron, a graduate student from Silver Spring, Md., set the school record with 51 career starts. Herron was named to the All-ACC Academic team for the third time, having been honored in 2016 and 2017 as well. He recently helped lead the North Team to a 34-17 victory in the Reese's Senior Bowl.
Tom, a redshirt sophomore from Prairieville, La., received his first All-ACC Academic recognition. He started at center in all 13 games in 2019, anchoring an offensive line that helped Wake Forest produce 31.8 points per game. He led all Deacs with 1,070 offensive snaps last fall.
Offensive Firepower
Carney finished his career seventh in school history with 2,446 yards rushing and his 21 career touchdowns are seventh-best in Deacs history. He was a finalist for the Pop Warner College Football Award in 2019 and the Advance, N.C. native earned his third All-ACC Academic honor after being named to 2016 and 2018 squads.
In 2019, Surratt became just the sixth Demon Deacon to ever eclipse 1,000 yards receiving in a single season. The Lincolnton, N.C. native caught 66 passes for 1,001 yards and 11 touchdowns as a redshirt sophomore. Surratt's 11 touchdowns in just nine games played are tied for second in Wake Forest history.
His 111.2 receiving yards per game average is the eighth-best mark in ACC history. Surratt set a school record with four games of 150 or more receiving yards and was chosen as a third team All-American by Athlon. The first team All-ACC honoree was also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team. This marks the second All-ACC Academic selection for Surratt after being named to the team a season ago.
