This marks the second straight week the Demon Deacons have won ACC weekly honors after Kenneth Walker III was named ACC Running Back of the Week on October 19.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest Football freshman defensive back Nick Andersen and redshirt senior defensive lineman Carlos "Boogie" Basham earned ACC weekly honors, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Andersen earned both Rookie of the Week and Defensive Back of the Week while Basham was named Defensive Lineman of the Week.
This marks the second straight week the Demon Deacons have won ACC weekly honors after Kenneth Walker III was named ACC Running Back of the Week on October 19.
Andersen, who was made his second consecutive start at safety on Saturday against No. 19 Virginia Tech, became the first Wake Forest player since A.J. Greene in 1987 to intercept three or more passes in a single game. He was also the first ACC player to have three or more interceptions since Louisville's Gerod Holliman in 2014.
The Clifton, Va. native sealed the win over the nationally-ranked Hokies with six seconds remaining in the game with his third interception of the day. He is just the fourth player in program history to have three or more interceptions and is the first true freshman to do so.
Not only did he record three interceptions, he turned in a team-high, game-high and career-high 11 total tackles including nine solo tackles.
On the defensive line, Basham extended his nation-leading tackle for loss streak to 23 games with a third down sack and forced fumble of Virginia Tech QB Hendon Hooker in the fourth quarter.
The Roanoke, Va. native has a sack in every game this season and a sack in 12 of the last 14 games. He currently fourth on the Wake Forest all-time sacks list with 20.5 sacks. He is 3.0 sacks away from Duke Ejiofor (2014-17) for third on the list.
Basham also finished the game with a career-high nine tackles including seven solo tackles in the win over No. 19 Virginia Tech.
Both players were key in keeping Virginia Tech's Kahlil Herbert, the national all-purpose yards leader, in check.
Herbert came in averaging 240.5 all-purpose yards per game. The Wake defense held him to 87 all-purpose yards. He also came in averaging 148.0 yards per game and 9.7 yards a carry. Led by Andersen's effort, the defense held him to just 64 yards (3.4 average) in the game.
