Wake Forest Takes Third at General Hackler Championship
3/10/2020 7:14:00 PM | Men's Golf
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Wake Forest men's golf team finished in third place with four Deacons inside the top 25.
Senior Eric Bae led the charge for the Deacons with his best finish of the year, coming in at T2 after all three of his rounds were even or under par. With a final score of six-under 210, he held a spot inside the top five for the entirety of the tournament. This is his fourth top-10 finish of the year.
Freshman Mark Power highlighted his tournament with his best round on the final day. A four-under score of 68 shot him up 33 spots on the board. After a bogey-free first nine, only one blemish on his second nine helped hold his solid position. After the bogey on 12 he immediately made up the stroke with a birdie on 13 and finishing out the final 5 holes even par. Power has found himself on the short list for the upcoming release of the Arnold Palmer Cup teams and is one of just three freshmen on the Ben Hogan Award Watch List.
Sophomores Alex Fitzpatrick and Eugenio Chacarra both finished alongside Power at T25. Juniors Parker Gillam and Marco Steyn came in just outside the top 25 at T36 and T31, respectively. Steyn was playing as an individual.
From the Coach
"We enjoyed being together as a whole team in Myrtle Beach this week. We had a nice opening round and continued to make a bunch of birdies but just had a few too many bogeys. One thing I love about this team is that they never quit, they feel bad when they don't play as well as they want to. But that's just the way this game goes, and we have to learn from it and move forward. We're going to keep getting better each and every time we play and be ready when adversity hits so we can come out on the right side of it." – Head Coach Jerry Haas

The Demon Deacons will be back in action March 15-17 at the Valspar Collegiate in Palm City, Florida.
