This ties a program record, marking the third time in the last four years and the fourth time overall the Deacs have had three honorees.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Cade Carney, Dayton Diemel and Dom Maggio were named as Hampshire Honor Society members, as announced by the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame Wednesday.
Honorees are comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college careers. Newly inducted members of the society must have completed their final year of eligibility in 2019 while being a starter or significant contributor throughout the 2019 season.
Wake Forest now has 18 honorees to the prestigious society since its inception in 2007. This ties a program record, marking the third time in the last four years and the fourth time overall the Deacs have had three honorees. Wake is one of five ACC schools to have at least one honoree since 2015.
Carney finished as the No. 7 rusher in school history with 2,446 yards, leading the team in rushing during his junior and senior campaigns. The Wake Forest captain also ended his Wake career seventh in school history with 21 career rushing touchdowns. In 2019, Carney was a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy while also being nominated for the Jason Witten Man of the Year Award.
Diemel, who was named to the Patrick Mannelly Watch List for the nation's top long snapper, finished his career with 524 long snaps without a single bad snap. He started every game during his sophomore, junior and senior campaigns while also playing in the final six games of his freshman season. He also earned first team All-ACC honors in 2019.
Maggio finished his career as the FBS career-active leader in total punt yardage. Over his four seasons at Wake Forest, he totaled 12,703 punt yards, finishing second in the Wake Forest record book. Maggio earned second team All-ACC honors in 2019 after ending the year second in the league with a 46.8-yard average.
