Five Questions with Marcus Tracy

Tracy was inducted into the Wake Forest Sports Hall of Fame in February.
Marcus Tracy was the college soccer national player of the year in 2008, winning the MAC Hermann Trophy after leading Wake Forest to a national championship the year before.
He earned the Offensive MVP of the 2007 College Cup, scoring the tying goal and assisting on the game-winner in Wake Forest's 2-1 championship match win over Ohio State. Tracy contributed 11 goals and nine assists in a 20-win Demon Deacon campaign.
Tracy returned to Wake Forest in February, when he was inducted into the Wake Forest Sports Hall of Fame. He spent some time with Deacon Sports Xtra that afternoon.
What was the Hall of Fame Induction day like for you?
Tracy: "It was great. It was incredibly organized. There were a lot of different stops to make along the way and a lot of conversations. The athletic department did a great job organizing the event. Connecting with former teammates, family and friends has been great. I haven't seen a lot of these people in years. To be able to come back and refresh those memories and experiences I had at Wake Forest, and sharing it with these people is really special."
What are your thoughts on the new facilities around campus?
Tracy: "It's incredible. Bobby Muuss took us around the Sutton Sports Performance Center and into the new locker rooms for soccer. It's world-class. We had what felt like a YMCA locker room. These guys are fortunate now. With my work now with Adidas, I move around the league and see what is out there and have played in Europe. What these guys have access to is top-class."
What does that mean for the Wake Forest soccer program moving forward?
Tracy: "I think it bodes well for the program. You have a coach like Bobby Muuss, who is incredibly knowledgeable, and knows how he wants his teams to play. Then you give them what they need to succeed. So it's about putting the right people in place. If you're able to do that, and they buy into what the program is trying to do, then they will go very, very far.
"I've known Bobby for 15-some years. He always has something funny or sarcastic to say. The facilities really impressed me. What they have access to is at the level of many professional clubs throughout the world, and better than a lot of what I've seen even in Europe. I think the kids are fortunate to be able to perform and learn in this type of environment."
What is Marcus Tracy reading these days?
Tracy: "I've been reading The Power of Now. That is by Eckhart Tolle. He brings a lot of ideas from Eastern philosophy and meditation. It's something for which I've been interested in recent months. I'm about 50 pages in."
When you read is it for enjoyment, or professional and personal development?
Tracy: "A lot of motivational and business-oriented, self-help books I like to read. It helps me understand how to think differently. I try to read every day. I don't read fiction. I do try to block out time to read. I try to read about seven o'clock in the morning. I wake up at 5 a.m. and get in a workout. Reading is such a part of my morning routine. Sometime between 7 and 9 a.m., I'm reading."
