Deacs Set for Virtual Spring Commencement

Among the 2019-20 Wake Forest graduates, eight were First Team All-Americans and the group totaled 35 Academic All-ACC honors.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – On Monday evening, Wake Forest University student-athletes will participate in a virtual conferring of degrees. With the COVID-19 pandemic changing Wake Forest's traditional commencement festivities, this will be the first of two celebrations for the Class of 2020. There were 22 undergraduate and two graduate students who graduated in December 2019, and 38 undergraduate and 10 graduate students who graduated in May 2020. Wake Forest student-athlete graduates for the 2019-20 academic year total 60 undergraduates and 12 graduate degrees.
"Our entire staff is proud of all our student-athletes and how they persevered through COVID-19 pandemic and this remote-learning environment," Director of Athletics John Currie said. "This graduating class achieved many competition-related accolades, but our staff is more grateful for the individuals they are and how they will represent the Wake Forest community in their future endeavors."
"This coming Monday, we would have gathered on Hearn Plaza to celebrate the Class of 2020," President Hatch said in a message to the community on Friday, May 15. "Commencement is among my favorite moments at Wake Forest, and my heart goes out to our graduates and their families. At 7 p.m. on Monday, May 18, we will celebrate the many wonderful contributions our graduates made to our community and salute them as we confer their degrees. We look forward to showing our admiration for this class and bringing closure to this chapter of their Wake Forest journey even as we eagerly anticipate holding a more traditional Commencement ceremony in person on October 31."
In addition to graduates and families, the entire Wake Forest community is invited to watch this virtual conferring of degrees on Monday evening as University leadership has some special and unique engagement ideas planned.

An in-person commencement for the Class of 2020 is planned for Saturday, October 31 at 1 p.m. Details are forthcoming from each program and school. Should public health concerns prevent us from gathering in large groups on October 31, our alternate commencement date will be Saturday, May 22, 2021.
Director of Athletics John Currie and Athletics staff plan to celebrate these student-athletes with a special reception on Friday, October 30 in conjunction with the University's fall commencement plan.
