Basham Named to Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List

The defensive lineman tallied 11.0 sacks and 18.0 tackles for loss last season en route to first team All-ACC honors.
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – Wake Forest redshirt senior defensive lineman Carlos "Boogie" Basham Jr. was named to the Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List, as announced Thursday by The Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation.
The award, given to college football's Defensive IMPACT Player of the Year, had 42 candidates make the watch list for the 17th annual award. Basham is one of 11 defensive linemen and nine ACC players on the initial list.
The Roanoke, Va. native is coming off a career year where he tallied 11.0 sacks and 18.0 tackles for loss. Basham's 2019 sack total was the second most in program history while his tackles for loss was eighth. In the nation, he ranked 15th in the country in sacks per game and 16th in tackles for loss.
The 2019 first team All-ACC enters his senior season with 31 career tackles for loss and 15.5 career sacks, which ranks sixth in program history.
The Lott IMPACT Trophy, which has raised more than $1.6 million for scholarships and other youth-related charities throughout the country, is the only major college football award where the character of the nominee is considered.
IMPACT stands for Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.
