Five Demon Deacon alumni will compete in the upcoming NWSL fall series.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Five Demon Deacon alumni will be competing in the upcoming NWSL 2020 fall series, which begins play on Sept. 5.
The Deacs playing in the fall series include Aubrey Bledsoe and Bayley Feist with the Washington Spirit, Madison Hammond with OL Reign, Peyton Perea with the NC Courage and Katie Stengel with the Houston Dash.
The NWSL fall series will include 18 matches over the course of seven weeks, featuring three, three-team pods that will all play one another and enable the league to minimize travel.
On Tuesday night, the NWSL released the first three weeks of matches, with the Deacon alumni games listed below.
Bledsoe is the reigning NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year after posting nine clean sheets in 2019. This year, she has a 0.80 goals-against average with eight saves in five matches.
In her second pro season, Feist has made five appearances and four starts this year. She scored the lone goal of the game in a 1-0 victory over Houston on July 12.
Hammond, a rookie, signed to play for the OL Reign ahead of the NWSL Challenge Cup, but has yet to make her debut. She was an All-ACC pick and four-year starter at Wake Forest, primarily on the back line.
Perea signed with the NC Courage earlier this week for the remainder of the season after previously serving as a National Team replacement player with the Courage last year.
Stengel is in the midst of her fifth NWSL season, and has totaled 12 career goals. She tallied an assist in her 2020 debut against the Utah Royals, her former squad.
