Wake Forest Cross Country Opens 2020 Season Friday

The Demon Deacons will compete against North Carolina and Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Wake Forest men's and women's cross country programs are set to begin the 2020 campaign on Friday, taking on Virginia and North Carolina in a trip to Charlottesville, Virginia.

In the ACC preseason poll, voted upon by league head coaches, Wake Forest was projected to finish fifth on the men's side and sixth on the women's side, matching where the two programs finished at the 2019 ACC Championship.
Wake Forest returns all 10 men who competed at that Championship meet last year as the team matched its best finish since 2005. That group is led by All-ACC returners Zach Facioni and Jack Tiernan, who finished fourth and eighth at the Championship, respectively. Carter Coughlin, Brent Bailey and John LePino each added top-50 finishes, as well.
The women's program returns one of its two All-ACC finishers as Elise Wright is back for her junior campaign after leading the team with a 14th-place finish a year ago. The Deacs are replacing their second and third finishers, Samantha Halvorsen and Hannah Brookover, but will again feature top-50 finishers Georgia Evans and Meredith Helton.
In addition to the numerous returners, both the Wake Forest men's and women's programs feature seven talented freshmen added to the mix.
