Hannah Betfort Selected by Portland Thorns FC in NWSL Draft

Betfort becomes the sixth Demon Deacon to be selected in the NWSL Draft and the ninth currently on a professional team.
CHICAGO -- Wake Forest women's soccer's Hannah Betfort was selected with the No. 37 pick by Portland Thorns FC in the 2021 National Women's Soccer League Draft.
"Congrats to Hannah on being drafted, the Portland Thorns are lucky to have her," said head coach Tony da Luz. "She has unconditionally excelled in every role and is prepared for NWSL competition. Hannah is a brilliant student-athlete, a force on the field, and a person of impeccable character. This is something she has been working for all her life and I am so happy for her and her family."
Betfort appeared in 65 games with 59 starts over her four seasons with the Demon Deacons, collecting eight assists along with six goals. Four different times the Charleston, S.C., native notched a game-winning goal as well.
Additionally, she departs Wake Forest having started 29 of her last 30 appearances while accumulating nearly 5,000 minutes of action.
Betfort began her career as a forward, logging five goals as a freshman before moving to outside back as a sophomore. As a junior in 2019, Betfort was named a team captain where she led the team with five assists while being named to the ACC All-Academic Team.
This past fall, Betfort was selected as a third-team All-ACC selection as she started all nine games and served as a team captain once again.
With her selection, Betfort becomes the sixth Demon Deacon to be selected in the NWSL Draft and the first since Bayley Feist in the second round in 2019.
There are now nine Demon Deacons on professional teams including seven in the NWSL.
