Former Demon Deacons Carlos “Boogie” Basham Jr, Sage Surratt and Jamie Newman are set to compete in the Senior Bowl on Saturday.
MOBILE, Ala. -- Three former Wake Forest football players are set to take part in the Senior Bowl festivities this week in Mobile, Ala.
With the three Deacs headed down to the premier College All-Star game, it marks the most in program history. There have been two Demon Deacons at the game nine times, dating back to 1950.
On the defensive side of the ball, defensive lineman Carlos "Boogie" Basham Jr. goes into the event as one of the top-rated players on either side of the ball.

During their time on the Wake Forest campus, the trio of Deacs helped lead the program to a program record of bowl game appearances and multiple eight-win seasons.

Both players went on to have successful rookie campaigns. Herron made multiple starts at left and right tackle. The Patriots' sixth-round selection also saw time at guard during the season.
Bassey made an early impression with the Denver Broncos, earning a spot on the 53-man roster after signing with the franchise as a UDFA. He ended the season with 21 tackles and pulled in his first career interception against New Orleans in week 12.
