All three former Demon Deacons made an early impression during day one of the Senior Bowl practices.
MOBILE, Ala. -- After one day of Senior Bowl practices, the Wake Forest trios of prospects came away as some of the most talked about players.
Before heading to the field for the first time this week, the former Demon Deacons got their measurables taken.
Wide receiver Sage Surratt was the first to take the field with the National Team while defensive end Carlos "Boogie" Basham Jr. and quarterback Jamie Newman stepped on the field later in the day.
Great first day of work. Get better each and every day🙏🏾 #TTTWG

Boogie Shows Off His Strength
Basham Jr. came into the week as the highest rated defensive prospect at the Senior Bowl according to Pro Football Focus. He was the only defensive player listed in the outlet's top-5 rankings prior to the week.
He did not disappoint on the opening day, showing his strength and precision during the bag drills.
Carlos Basham is absolutely MURDERING these bag drills.

The Wake Forest edge rusher is delivering the loudest pops of the group. #SeniorBowl
The Roanoke, Va. native also showed off what he did best during his time at Wake Forest, getting to the quarterback. On this occasion, Basham showed his ability to work his way in between the guard and the tackle.

Surratt Makes Circus Catch
Surratt had NFL social pages buzzing early on day one with an amazing catch down the deep down the sideline.
Wrong side of the field for a good look, but this was a helluva catch by Wake Forest's Sage Surratt vs Okla St DB Rodarius Williams. Throw from Ian Book.#SeniorBowl pic.twitter.com/aoCiLFi8J1

During the 2019 season, Surratt had one of the best seasons for a Wake Forest receiver in program history, finishing the year with 11 touchdowns and over 1,000 receiving yards. Part of of what made the former Deacon such a threat was his ability to pull any ball down in traffic and day one was no different for Surratt.
Big Riser from today at the @seniorbowl :@WakeFB WR @SageSurratt_14

Newman Touted for Arm Strength
Like Basham and Surratt, Newman started out the day with measurables. His hands measured as the largest of any quarterback in Mobile, Ala. coming in at 10"
By the end of the day, it was his arm that earned the most buzz.
The American team just wrapped up 1 on 1s. I'll say this, Jamie Newman might have the best arm down here. He was spinning it today. Threw the deep ball with ease. Every throw was precise. Here's one of his throws to Cornell Powell. pic.twitter.com/SsRC8sCPpd

He was the consensus best quarterback out of the group of six signal callers currently set to take part in the Senior Bowl.
Jamie Newman is the best QB here today. Easily has the most arm talent of the QBs at @seniorbowl.
