
Spear Named ACC Player of the Week

The sophomore averaged 23.3 points per game in the opening week of the season including a career-best 32 points against Cornell on Friday night.
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Wake Forest women's basketball sophomore guard Jewel Spear was named the ACC Co-Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
The Colony, Texas native had an explosive opening week of the season, helping the Demon Deacons to their second-best start in the Jen Hoover era at 3-0.
Spear currently leads the ACC in scoring average (23.3 PPG) and is 20th in the nation. Her 70 total points ranks fifth among all Division I players. Additionally, Spear's 11 three-point makes and 26 three-point attempts rank third in the nation.
The sophomore also leads the league in free throws made (13), free throws attempted (17) and minutes played (100.40).
She had a historic night in the home opener on Friday afternoon, finishing the victory over Cornell with a career-best 32 points. This marks the first time since Dearica Hamby in the 2014-15 season that a Demon Deacon has scored more than 30 points in a single game.
Spear finished 12-of-16 from the field, including a career-high-tying seven three pointers.
With three double figure games to open the season, Spear has now gone for 10-plus points in eight consecutive games.
