Program-Record 15 Demon Deacons Earn All-ACC Honors

Redshirt sophomore wide receiver A.T. Perry, redshirt junior offensive lineman Zach Tom and junior kicker Nick Sciba all earned First Team All-ACC honors, tying the most in the Clawson era.

GREENSBORO, N.C. - A program-record 15 Wake Forest football players earned All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors, as announced by the league office on Tuesday morning.

This marks the fifth consecutive season the Demon Deacons have had seven or more players make the All-ACC teams and the second time in the last three seasons the Deacs have set a new school record for All-ACC performers. 

The Deacs 36 All-ACC honors over the last three seasons rank second in the ACC Atlantic, trailing just Clemson.

Additionally with Wake Forest's three first team selections in redshirt sophomore wide receiver A.T. Perry, redshirt junior offensive lineman Zach Tom and junior kicker Nick Sciba, Wake Forest has had at least one first team All-ACC player since 2015. The trio of Demon Deacons ties the most first team selections in the Dave Clawson era with the 2019 season.

In addition to the first team trio, redshirt sophomore quarterback Sam Hartman, redshirt junior Jaquarii Roberson, redshirt senior defensive lineman Miles Fox and redshirt senior defensive back Traveon Redd garnered second team honors. 

Redshirt junior offensive lineman Sean Maginn was placed on the third team while redshirt senior tight end Brandon Chapman, redshirt junior offensive lineman Loic Ngassam Nya, redshirt sophomore offensive lineman Michael Jurgens, redshirt sophomore defensive lineman Rondell Bothroyd, redshirt senior linebacker Luke Masterson, senior defensive back Ja'Sir Taylor and freshman defensive back Caelen Carson all earned honorable mention recognition from the voters.

A.T. Perry (Wide Receiver)

Perry's 13 touchdowns ranks second in the NCAA and ranks second in the ACC while Roberson's eight touchdowns rank 35th in the country and fourth in the ACC. 

With two touchdown catches at Boston College, A.T. Perry now has 13 touchdown receptions this season, marking the most in program history. Additionally, Perry is just the fourth Demon Deacon to post double-digit receiving touchdowns in a single season.

Perry also is now second in school history with 1,112 receiving yards this season, becoming just the eighth wide receiver in school history to cross over the 1,000-yard barrier. Roberson also crossed the barrier for the first time in his career on Saturday at Boston College. It marks just the second time in program history Wake Forest has had multiple 1,000-yard receivers in the same season (2019):

Zach Tom (Left Tackle)

Tom, who was named a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy this year and won the Jim Tatum Award on , has appeared in 46 games, making 35 starts including all 34 over the last three seasons. According to Pro Football Focus, Tom is the only player in the country with a 90.0-plus pass blocking grade and a 75.0-plus run blocking rating. 

Overall for the season, Tom helped Wake Forest's offense rank third in the country in scoring offense (42.9), while ranking ninth in total offense (483.6). Additionally, the Demon Deacons are on pace to smash the program scoring mark as the Deacs more than a touchdown better than their record-setting pace a season ago of 36.0 points per game.

In addition to scoring offense, the Deacs also rank top-25 in these offensive categories: Total offense (9th, 483.6 yd/game), Yards per Completion (9th, 14.67), 3rd Down Conv. Pct. (6th, 50%), Red Zone Offense (9th, 91.7%), Passing Offense (11th, 316 yd/game) and Team Passing Efficiency (23rd, 153.51). 

Zach Tom was named ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week for the first time of his career this past week as he anchored the Wake Forest offensive line that tallied 677 yards, the second-highest total in program history and the most in a Demon Deacon home game against Duke. 

Overall, Tom helped Wake Forest's offense score 45 points and total 266 rushing yards, 411 passing yards and 29 first downs. The Demon Deacons averaged 6.3 yards per play in the run game. Individually, Tom tallied two knockdowns and did not allow a sack and pressure.

Heading into the 2021 season, Tom has played in 1,902 snaps and has given up just one sack while grading out at 92% overall and has only been called for three penalties.

The two-time ACC Academic Team honoree, ACC Postgraduate Scholarship recipient and Campbell Trophy Semifinalist was also placed on the Outland Trophy Preseason Watch List, Phil Steele Preseason All-ACC First Team and Preseason Fourth Team All-American by Phil Steele prior to the year.

The ACC's leading returner in pass block efficiency was recognized this preseason as an All-American by Phil Steele. Tom was also placed on the Outland Trophy Preseason Watch List, given to the best interior lineman in the country.

Nick Sciba (Kicker)

After a historic start to the season, Wake Forest junior kicker Nick Sciba was named a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award for the third-straight season, making him one of just three members on the 2021 list to earn the honor three years in a row.

Additionally, the Clover, S.C. native was named a unanimous Midseason First Team All-American, earning first-team honors from Associated Press, CBS Sports, The Athletic, ESPN and 247Sports.

The two-time ACC specialist of the week connected on his first 12 field goals this season and made a then FBS-best 24-consecutive field goals, dating back to the 2020 season. 

After connecting on a pair of field goal attempts against Boston College, Sciba owns a .895 career field goal percentage (77-of-86), which is tied for the second highest in NCAA history:

Sam Hartman (Quarterback)

Hartman is in the midst of the greatest single season for a Demon Deacon signal caller while also eclipsing numerous career milestones along the way.

Sam Hartman finished Saturday's contest 20-for-32 for 236 passing yards and three passing touchdowns as well as a rushing touchdown. Over the past eight games, Hartman has thrown the ball for 3,020 yards, 28 touchdowns while completing his passes at a 51.7 clip. 

He continues to inch closer to the all-time passing yardage list, becoming the fourth player in program history to throw for over 8,500 yards in his career and is 27th on the ACC all-time list passing Russell Wilson (NC State; 2008-11) this past weekend:

Named to the PFF National Team of the Week (Oct. 25, 2021)

Jaquarii Roberson reeled in 8 catches for 157 yards and three touchdowns to lead Wake Forest's receiving corps. Saturday's performance marked the third-multi touchdown game of Roberson's career, including his second game of three touchdowns (December 30, 2020 vs. Wisconsin Duke's Mayo Bowl) and his third-consecutive game of at least 100 yards. 

To end the 2020 season, Roberson tallied over 100 yards in Wake Forest's final four games. 

Against North Carolina, he recorded his 16th and 17th career touchdown reception which moved him into the top eight in program history in touchdown receptions, tying former teammate Greg Dortch:

Miles Fox (Defensive Tackle)

Miles Fox, who was an All-ACC honoree a season ago and a team captain this fall, has 30 total tackles, six tackles-for-loss and three sacks during the season. 

He has helped anchor a defense that has forced 27 turnovers on the season, which is the third most in the nation. 

Traveon Redd (Safety)

Traveon Redd has forced five turnovers this season including three interceptions and two forced fumbles while also having three fumble recoveries. Redd co-leads the conference and ranks third in the country with three fumbles recovered this season.

He has helped anchor a defense that has forced 27 turnovers on the season, which is the third most in the nation. 

Redd has a fumble recovery, forced fumble or interception in eight of 12 games this season including a six-game streak heading from Louisville to NC State.

Redd was named the ACC Defensive Back of the Week twice this season (Oct. 4 & Oct. 25, 2021) after standout performances against Army and Louisville. 

Against Army, Redd tallied an 83-yard interception return for a touchdown, the first of his career, that helped the Deacs secure the lead for good against Army. The touchdown was the seventh-longest interception return in program history.  In addition to the game-changing interception, Redd tallied seven tackles.

Redd secured a team-high and career-best 11 tackles (eight solo) in the home win versus the Cardinals. He nearly doubled his season total, which entering Saturday stood at 12 total tackles through four games.

With 3:47 remaining in the game, Redd forced the first fumble of his career. Redd also is tied for the team lead in interceptions with two.

Brandon Chapman (Tight End)

Brandon Chapman earned a spot on the 2021 John Mackey Award Watch List and has started 11 games this season for the Demon Deacons. The senior has totaled eight catches for 66 yards and a touchdown this fall. Additionally, he has been a key run blocker for the Deacs historic office. 

Overall for the season, Chapman helped Wake Forest's offense rank third in the country in scoring offense (42.9), while ranking ninth in total offense (483.6). Michael Jurgens (Center)

Jurgens, who was on the Rimington Award Watch List during the preseason, has played and started in 11 games this season at center for the Demon Deacons. According to Pro Football Focus, Jurgens ranks as the No. 6 center in the ACC overall. Additionally, Wake Forest is 10-1 when he starts and undefeated in ACC games when he starts. 

Overall for the season, Jurgens helped Wake Forest's offense rank third in the country in scoring offense (42.9), while ranking ninth in total offense (483.6). Additionally, the Demon Deacons are on pace to smash the program scoring mark as the Deacs more than a touchdown better than their record-setting pace a season ago of 36.0 points per game.

Rondell Bothroyd (Defensive End)

Rondell Bothroyd leads the Demon Deacons in tackles-for-loss (13.5) and sacks (7) and he has totaled 59 total tackles, the third most on the Demon Deacon defense. Additionally, he has recorded two fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles and blocked one kick. 

His 14.5 TFLs this season is tied for second in the conference and his six sacks are tied for eighth in the league.

He has helped anchor a pass rush that has forced 27 turnovers on the season, which is good for the third most in the nation. 

Luke Masterson (Linebacker)

Luke Masterson leads the Demon Deacons in tackles with 72 and he has totaled 11.0 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks and one forced fumble. 

Masterson's best game of the season came on the road at UVA when he led the Wake Forest defense with career-high two sacks.

He has helped anchor a pass rush that has forced 27 turnovers on the season, which is the third most in the country this season. 

A two-year captain, Masterson has quarterbacked the defense this season to one of the best turnover margins in the Power-5 (plus-11) and ranks tied for 5th in the FBS in that category. In addition to turning the ball over, the Demon Deacon defense also saw themselves inside of the top-25 in a number of other categories: TFL/G (16th, 7.0), Turnovers Gained (3rd, 27) and Fumble Recovered (2nd, 14).

Ja'Sir Taylor (Cornerback)

Ja'Sir Taylor co-leads the conference and ranks third in the country with three fumbles recovered this season.

He has helped anchor a pass rush that has forced 27 turnovers on the season, which is the third most in the country. The Demon Deacons 13 interceptions this season rank third among all conference schools.

His 50 tackles this season ranks fifth among all Wake Forest defenders and his 37 solo tackles rank second on the team

Taylor is the first player in Wake Forest history to have a kick return touchdown and an interception in the same game. In addition to his success returning kickoffs, Taylor also grabbed the fifth interception of his career in the second quarter against the Monarchs. 

Taylor became the first Wake Forest player to have a touchdown in his first career kickoff return, taking his only kick return of Wake Forest's 42-10 victory over Old Dominion 99 yards for the score.

Additionally, he was the first FBS player to have a kickoff return for a touchdown during the 2021 season. It was tied for the third longest play in Wake Forest history and is tied for the longest kickoff return in program history. He is just one of nine players in the country to have a kick return touchdown this season.

Caelen Carson (Cornerback)

Caelen Carson has helped anchor a pass rush that has forced 27 turnovers on the season, which is the third most in the country this season. The Demon Deacons 13 interceptions this season rank third among all conference schools.

Carson has tallied two of those interceptions ranking second on the team behind Traveon Redd, Additionally, he leads the team with seven pass breakups this season 

His combined nine passes defended per game is tied for fifth in the conference and his average of 1.00 per game tied for the conference's lead.

Carson has tallied 31 tackles this season including 26 solo tackles, good for seventh on the team.
