
Smart, Small Garner 2021 All-ACC Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. - No. 25 Wake Forest women's soccer senior forward Shayla Smart and freshman midfielder Nikayla Small were named to the 2021 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Soccer team, as announced by the league Thursday afternoon.
It is the 20th time Wake Forest has earned two or more All-ACC accolades.
Smart, who was selected to the All-ACC Third Team, and Small, who landed on the All-Freshman, received All-Conference accolades for the first time in their careers.
Smart has led Wake Forest's offense with a team-high and career-best 10 goals, which is tied for fourth in the ACC. In 2021, Smart found the back of the net in seven of her 19 appearances. Smart is also tied for the third most game-winning goals in the nation (6).
After earning the hat trick against Loyola-Maryland, Smart was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week for the first time of her career.
Small has dished out a tie for team-best five assists in 2021. During the regular season, Small assisted on a Wake Forest goal in four matches, highlighted by a career-best two assists against Loyola-Maryland on Sept. 2. In addition to setting up her teammates, Small notched a goal against Youngstown State (Aug 29).
On Oct. 12, Small was invited to join the Canadian Women's National Team on their Celebration Tour for the October international window from Oct. 23 - Oct. 26.
No. 25 Wake Forest's hunt for its second conference title in program history continues Friday night in the ACC Soccer Tournament semifinals, as the sixth-seeded Demon Deacons take on two-seeded Florida State. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET at the WakeMed Sports Park in Cary, N.C.
