WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's basketball program has signed University of Colorado graduate transfer, Dallas Walton.
"Dallas Walton is a talented big man who has played in the NCAA Tournament and been a key member of some successful teams under Tad Boyle at Colorado over the past few years," head coach Steve Forbes said. "Dallas epitomizes the characteristics of a successful Wake Forest student-athlete, being a person who excels on the court and in the classroom. Our staff is excited to get him on campus as he will be an outstanding addition to our University community on and off the floor."
Over the course of Walton's career at Colorado, the Buffaloes advanced to the Pac-12 title game twice, made the quarterfinals of the NIT and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. This includes the 2020-21 season's appearance in the conference tournament final against Oregon State and Colorado's NCAA tournament run to the round of 32, where they fell to Florida State.
The seven-foot forward played in 26 games for the Buffs last season including 23 starts, and averaged 6.5 points and 2.8 rebounds in 14.8 minutes per game. He recorded a career-high 22 points against Washington on Dec. 20, 2020, when he went a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line and shot 85 percent from the field. He was just one board shy of his career high in rebounds (eight) when he pulled down seven at Oregon State on February 8, 2021.
After missing the 2018-19 season due to an injury, Walton saw action in 28 games averaging just over six minutes per contest in 2019-20. He finished the season with 45 points and 32 rebounds while shooting 42 percent from the field. He scored 28 of his season's 45 points over the final 10 games and made 15 of his last 25 field goal attempts (.600).
During his redshirt freshman season in 2017-18, Walton averaged 5.7 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in just under 19 minutes per game. He led Colorado with 34 blocked shots, which ranked 10th in the Pac-12 Conference. All but seven of his blocks came during conference play, ranking sixth in the league during that span (1.4 bpg). He saw limited action in the first six games of the season, but made his very first appearance in the starting lineup at Colorado State on Feb. 2, 2017, scoring six points and grabbing three rebounds in 16 minutes. He would go on to start 25 of 26 games, coming off the bench against Iowa Dec. 22, a game in which he scored a then personal-best 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting. He went on to earn the team's Most Improved Player Award at the end of the season.
Walton graduated from Colorado with his bachelor's degree in strategic communication with an emphasis on advertising from the College of Media, Communication and Information and will have one year of eligibility at Wake Forest.
