WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Ashley Wechter, a former Wake Forest track & field student-athlete who was elevated to Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Development & Administration a year ago, joins this week's edition of the Deac2Deac Podcast.
Wechter manages the Student-Athlete Development department, including all personal, career, and leadership development, as well as the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (S.A.A.C.), community partnerships and diversity, equity and inclusion programming. Wechter serves as the primary sport administrator for the Demon Deacon field hockey and cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field programs, oversees the RIDE (Realizing Inclusion, Diversity and Equity) Committee, signature events, and is a senior staff member.
Wechter has operated the Student-Athlete Development department since 2013 when she came back to her alma mater. Her duties have included developing and implementing holistic programming for all student-athletes. A large focus has been spearheading a culture shift in career readiness and better preparing our student-athletes for life after Wake Forest. Wechter envisioned and created a Career Night solely for student-athletes which allows them an opportunity to network with over 35 employers, industry experts and graduate programs and display their Demon Deacon talent. She partners with the nationally ranked Office of Personal and Career Development to ensure our Demon Deacons are prepared for life long success.
Wechter is the ACC Field Hockey Chair, as well as the Athletics Chair for the United Way Campaign. She serves on various campus and community boards, including Santa's Helper, Call to Conversation, Culture of Respect, Student Life, and Campus Engagement. Wechter supervised the coordination of community outreach projects, and led the Demon Deacons to winning the 2017 "ACC Game Changers" Award.
Prior to WFU, Wechter joined the NCAA staff as a coordinator of Championships and Alliances in 2009. She worked 11 different national championships. Wechter was a finalist for the NCAA Presidential Award. Before her time at the NCAA, Wechter worked with Event Marketing & Management International in Orlando, Fla. where she served as an Event Coordinator and Marketing Assistant for 33 local and national road races, including all Disney World and Disneyland events.
Wechter earned her bachelor's degree in health and exercise science from Wake Forest in 2006 and was the ACC Future's Intern with Disney Sports in 2007. She is active in the community and a member of Salem Chapel. Ashley was selected as an Emerging Women Leader North Carolina in Spring 2018, and is a member of Women Leaders in College Sports.
She and her husband Austin have two children, Cole and Quinn.
On today's pod, Wechter joins alum Kevin Smith to talk about all things Wake Forest Athletics and student-athletes.
