Demon Deacons Open Regular Season Hosting UIC

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest Demon Deacons are set to open the regular season at home Thursday night, hosting the UIC Flames in a non-conference matchup.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Spry Stadium.
Gates will open one hour prior to kickoff at 6 p.m.
FOLLOW LIVE
Thursday's contest will be streamed live on ACCNX, available online and through the ESPN app. Live stats will also be provided via Statbroadcast.
PROMOTIONS
First 50 students get free DEACTOWN sunglasses and free snow cones from Kona Ice.
Anyone attending will get leis while supplies last.
FRESHMAN SHINES IN EXHIBITION
In Wake Forest's 2-2 preseason tie against No. 7 Clemson, one of the Deacs' goals came from freshman Olivia Duvall.
NEW YEAR, NEW TEAM
The Deacs return 20 letterwinners from last year's squad, highlighted by Ryanne Brown, Giovanna DeMarco, Sofia Rossi and ACC All-Freshman Team member Sophie Faircloth.
Wake Forest welcomes a signing class of 16 that was rated No. 37 in the country and No. 7 in the ACC by TopDrawerSoccer.com. The Deacs added 15 true freshmen and one graduate transfer - Jenna Menta from Georgetown - that look to make an immediate impact this season.
FAN INFORMATION
A number of new fan experience enhancements are available for the 2021 season. This includes expanded food and beverage options, including availability on Walt Chyzowich Alumni Hill.
Additionally, there will be an enhanced in-game experience, featuring an expanded video board production with additional cameras, replay and fan-engaging elements, as well as new immersive experiences to promote the unique culture that is known around the soccer world.

First-year head coach David Nikolic leads a UIC side that went 5-3-1 in 2020-21. The Flames went 1-1 in the preseason exhibitions with a 1-0 win over Southern Illinois and 2-1 loss to Loyola (IL).
The leading returning scorer for the Flames is Grace Setter (3G, 1A).

Wake Forest's home stand continues Sunday, Aug. 22 as the High Point Panthers travel to Winston-Salem. Kickoff for that matchup is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Spry Stadium on ACC Network.
