Taylor and Davis Receive ACC Weekly Honors

Senior defensive back Ja’Sir Taylor was named the ACC Specialist of the Week while freshman defensive lineman Jasheen Davis earned ACC Co-Rookie of the Week honors.
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Wake Forest football senior defensive back Ja'Sir Taylor and freshman defensive lineman Jasheen Davis received ACC weekly honors, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
Taylor, who was named ACC Specialist of the Week, and Davis, who was the ACC Co-Rookie of the Week, both earned the first ACC honors of their Wake Forest careers.
Specialist of the Week
Ja'Sir Taylor became the first Wake Forest player to have a touchdown in his first career kickoff return, taking his only kick return of Wake Forest's 42-10 victory over Old Dominion 99 yards for the score. Additionally, he is the only FBS to have a kickoff return for a touchdown during the 2021 season.
It was tied for the third longest play in Wake Forest history and is tied for the longest kickoff return in program history.
Taylor is the first player in Wake Forest history to have a kick return touchdown and an interception in the same game.
In addition to his success returning kickoffs, Taylor also grabbed the fifth interception of his career in the second quarter against the Monarchs.
According to Pro Football Focus, Ja'Sir Taylor (81.2) and Caelen Carson (80.7) were the highest-rated cornerback duo in the nation for week one. Taylor was the 15th highest-rated corner in the country while Carson was the No. 17 rated corner.
Rookie of the Week
Earning his first career start, Davis made the most of it. He led the Demon Deacons in tackles (nine), tackles for loss (2.5) and sacks (1.5). He also became the first freshman in the Dave Clawson era with 1.5 or more sacks in a single game.
According to Pro Football Focus, Davis had the highest rating (76.2) for an ACC edge defender in week one.
