WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's basketball team will play its first Atlantic Coast Conference game of the season on the road Friday night (Dec. 2) at Clemson.
The Demon Deacons (7-1) are coming off a 78-75 win at Wisconsin on Tuesday night in the ACC/BIG Ten Challenge. The Deacs are the first team to net 70 or more points in a contest versus Wisconsin this year. Wake Forest has mounted a 7-1 season start for the second year in a row, having started 10-1 back in 2021-22.
Playing all 40 minutes on Tuesday night, Tyree Appleby went off for a new personal-best scoring performance as a Deac, leading all individuals with 32 points. He is the first Wake Forest individual to score 30 or more points since Alondes Williams' 34 points versus VMI on Dec. 14, 2021. The savvy guard controlled the tempo in a highly efficient manner, going 11-of-16 from the field, including a 4-of-6 mark from three-point land. Appleby added four rebounds and five assists to his line.
Wake Forest also saw clutch moments from Cameron Hildreth and Damari Monsanto, as the two finished with 15 and 13 points, respectively. Hildreth hauled in seven rebounds. The Deacs continued their streak of having at least three players score in double-figures every game this season.
Playing 24 minutes, Matthew Marsh was close to recording a double-double, totaling eight points on 4-of-4 shooting and grabbing a career-high nine rebounds. It was the second game in a row that the sophomore big man had not missed a field goal.
Clemson (6-2), led by 13th year head coach Brad Brownell, is coming off a 101-94 double overtime win over Penn State Tuesday night in the ACC/BIG Ten Challenge. The Tigers rely heavily on the experienced core of Chase Hunter, Hunter Tyson, Brevin Galloway and PJ Hall, all of whom are averaging double-figures in scoring this season.
The Tigers are 6-0 at home this season, and Wake Forest has not won at Clemson since January 17, 2009. After defeating Virginia, Florida State and Georgia Tech on the way to 13 league wins last season, Clemson is one of only two schools (Duke) Steve Forbes has yet to defeat during his time at the helm of the Demon Deacons.
Friday night's tipoff inside Littlejohn Coliseum is scheduled for 7:00 p.m ET. The game will air live on Regional Bally Sports Networks.
Fans can follow along via the Demon Deacons' Twitter, Instagram and Facebook accounts (@WakeMBB).
