WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Freshman midfielder Nikayla Small of the Wake Forest University women's soccer team has been named to the Canada's Women's National Team's roster for the 2022 Concacaf Women's U-20 Championship, set for February 25-March 12 in the Dominican Republic.
Small previously was named one of 26 players to join Canadian Women's National Team on their Celebration Tour, Canada's start for the FIFA Women's World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023 and Olympic Games 2024 in Paris.
A native of Pickering, Canada, Small was named to the TopDrawerSoccer Freshman Best XI Second Team and finished the season ranked as the No. 16-ranked freshman in the nation. She finished the season with seven points on five assists and one goal to help lead the Deacs to one of the best seasons since 2011 and a No. 25 ranking in the latest TopDrawerSoccer poll.
This will be the first Concacaf youth tournament since the global pandemic that canceled tournaments in 2020 and 2021. Following the Concacaf Women's Under-20 Championship in February and March, Canada will compete in the Concacaf Women's Under-17 Championship from 23 April to 8 May and then the Concacaf Men's Under-20 Championship this summer.
