The sophomore from Carmel, Ind. captured the Wolfpack Invitational, winning by five strokes.

RALEIGH, N.C. – Wake Forest men's golf sophomore Clay Stirsman captured the Wolfpack Invitational on Sunday afternoon in Raleigh, N.C.

This marks the first individual title in his two seasons at Wake Forest, winning the tournament by five strokes and being one of just two players in the 41-player field to be under par for the tournament.

After shooting an opening round of 70 (-2), Stirsman went into Sunday in third. In the final round of the tournament, Stirsman carded the low round of the tournament to run away with medalist honors at Lonnie Poole Golf Course.

The sophomore from Carmel, Ind. birdied the first hole of the day and never looked back. He was 2-under par by the turn and 3-under after 11 holes. The only blemish on his scorecard was a bogey on the 12th, but he quickly rebounded to have birdies on two of the next three holes.

Stirsman turned in a final round 68 (-4) to win the title.

He was not the only Demon Deacon in the tournament as four Deacs competed in the event this week. Both freshman Marshall Meisel and junior Daniel Sheedy claimed top-20 finishes with Meisel tying for 13th at 5-over-par while Sheedy was tied for 17th at 7-over-par.

Freshman Collin Adams finished tied for 30th at 11-over.
