Women's NIT Bracket

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Wake Forest women's basketball team was selected to the Women's National Invitational Tournament and will host Akron on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Thursday's first round matchup will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra and marks the first time that the Demon Deacons will face Akron.

This marks the second-consecutive season and the fourth time in the Jen Hoover era that the Demon Deacons have earned a postseason berth. Overall, this marks the ninth time in program history that Wake Forest will play in the postseason and this is their first WNIT appearance since the 2017.

"I am so proud of this group," head coach Jen Hoover said. "Playing in the deepest conference in the nation, our young team continued to improve throughout the season. We are playing our best basketball of the season right now and I am happy that this special group of young women will get a chance to continue to grow together and compete for a postseason championship. Our group is excited to keep building on our recent success."

Wake Forest has played one of the most difficult schedules in the nation with the No. 57 Opponent Success Rate and the No. 64 Average Opponent NET Rankings in the country. Additionally, 16 of the Demon Deacons 32 games have come against top-100 NET programs.

The Demon Deacons have a pair of top-51 NET wins, coming at Miami and against Florida State.

Additionally during non-conference play, the Demon Deacons defeated three reigning conference champions in Mercer (SoCon), High Point (Big South) and Troy (Sun Belt) with the wins over Mercer and High Point both coming on the road.

Wake Forest boasts the ACC's leading scorer and All-ACC First Team selection, sophomore guard Jewel Spear with 18.5 points per game.

Spear is the first sophomore leading scorer in the conference since the 2011-12 season and just the third in the last 20 years. Additionally, her 90 three pointers ranks first in the ACC and is the second most in single-season program history.

In seven of the last nine games, Wake Forest has had four or more double-digit scorers.
