Past, Present and Future Deacs Set to Play Professionally This Weekend

Bill Haas and Alex Fitzpatrick are set to play at the Valspar Championship while Boyd Owens played his way into the Korn Ferry Tour’s Louisiana Open.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Three Demon Deacon golfers past, present and future will be set to compete on the professional level this weekend including a pair of debuts.
At the Valspar Championship at Innisbrook Golf Resort in Palm Harbor, Fla., former Wake Forest great and 2004 Haskins Award, Jack Nicklaus Award, and Ben Hogan Award recipient Bill Haas will play alongside senior Alex Fitzpatrick.
This will be Fitzpatrick's PGA Tour debut. He will be one of two amateurs in the field.
He qualified after winning at the Valspar Collegiate in March 2021. Fitzpatrick led the field for most of the event. With a 12-under score of 201, Fitzpatrick took home his first collegiate title and fifth top five finish of his career. He carded scores of 67, 66, and 68 with a bogey-free final round.
As a senior, Fitzpatrick has been playing some of the best golf of his career, turning in five top-20 finishes in the last six events. This included his second individual victory this fall at the Old Town Club Collegiate Invitational, sharing medalist honors with teammate Michael Brennan who also made his PGA Tour debut a month ago at the Genesis Invitational.
Heading into the weekend, Fitzpatrick currently ranks sixth in the World Amateur Golf Rankings while also ranking fifth in the PGA Tour University rankings.
On the Korn Ferry Tour, 2022 Wake Forest signee Boyd Owens is set to make his professional debut after qualifying for the Louisiana Open on Monday.
The high school senior fired off a one-round score of 63 (-9) to qualify for the event.
