Founded by alums Wells Thompson and Dr. Brad Miller, Soccer Resilience will provide mental training sessions to serve the program and assist with challenges.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest men's soccer is partnering with Soccer Resilience to help develop the mental strength that it takes to be highly competitive. Soccer Resilience will be assisting with managing and balancing all that goes into being a student-athlete at a premier institution. With this understanding, the organization will provide access to Soccer Resilience FC to all Wake Forest student-athletes, coaches and staff involved with the program.
"Wake Forest Men's Soccer is one of the most respected and professional programs in the country. Such success requires strong mental fortitude. Adding to that is important to us as we realize that being a part of something this great can potentially weigh heavily on players and coaches," said Soccer Resilience Founder and Wake Forest men's soccer alum Wells Thompson ('07). "Our team is uniquely suited to serve Wake, as we understand the physical, emotional, and mental challenges that student-athletes face in order to fulfill their potential.
"Our mental training sessions and Soccer Resilience FC Online Academy will support Wake's vision of an approach that promotes education, excellence, and personal growth both on and off the pitch. To say we are excited to partner with Bobby and his team is a grave understatement."
Soccer Resilience FC is a comprehensive online tool that provides continuous mental fitness training, resources, and support for soccer players, and coaches.
The organization has developed a curriculum that includes expert videos interviews that make mental health training practical and engaging. All of these resources are downloadable for viewing at their convenience.
Additionally, all student-athletes and coaches will be provided monthly live Zoom interactive training sessions, creating an edge for the program on and off of the field.
"A coach can influence more people in a season than most do in a lifetime," said head coach Bobby Muuss. "As a coach, it is my responsibility to provide these young athletes with everything they need to succeed both on and off the field. Coaching for me is more than just influencing someone's game, but more importantly, it's about influencing their mentality in all aspects of life. One day these young men will be husbands, fathers, and leaders of their family's and in their communities. I am always looking for new ways to impact and grow, personally for myself and the guys. I've admired greatly the work and impact that Soccer Resilience has had and continues to have in their short time of existence. As a program we're excited to partner with Soccer Resilience because of the character and expertise that they bring."
"NCAA National Champions in 2007. ACC Atlantic Division Champions in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018. Wake Forest is a school that proactively looks for victory, and their accolades in recent years speak to this," added Soccer Resilience Founder Dr. Brad Miller, Psy.D. "It is an honor to help them proactively focus on mental health from a strength-based approach."
