PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – The Wake Forest women's golf team defeated the Virginia Cavaliers,3-1-1, in the semifinal round of match play at the ACC Championships. The Deacs are advancing to the finals for the first time since they won the title in 2019.
Mimi Rhodes was the first Deac on the board, winning her match in dominant fashion. After Virginia struggled with a double bogey on hole 15, Rhodes went up five holes with just three to play and won the match. Carolina Chacarra was next on the board. After winning the 17th hole, she went up two with one hole to play and took the match.
With the Deacs ahead two matches to one with two still on the course, the weather rolled in. Rachel Kuehn was ready on the 18th tee box, up one, and Virunpat Olankitkunchai was set on the 16th tee box when officials cleared the course with lightning in the area.
After a 90-minute rain and lightning delay, play resumed at 2:30 p.m. with Kuehn on the 18 tee and Olankitkunchai on 16. At the tee of the 465-yard par-five 18th hole, Kuehn hit a 251-yard tee shot with a driver to the middle of the fairway. She had 214 yards to the flag and chose a hybrid. She landed about five feet from the hole and sank the putt for an eagle to Virginia's par and won the hole to win the match two up. Olankitkunchai did not need to finish her match as the Deacs won three matches to one, with Olankitkunchai's match going down as a tie.

Coach's Comments
"I am proud of the way our girls played today. They managed the course well and we really showed our depth. We have five, six really, players that can go out and win and I think that will help us a lot tomorrow. Florida State is a good golf team, and we have to show up and play well to win." – head coach Kim Lewellen
