Good Evening,

This special edition of From the Quad brings news of a leadership transition as we continue to strive towards our vision of A Model Intercollegiate Athletics Program. I appreciate the investment of time, expertise and resources by all Demon Deacons fans as we strive to deliver a World Class Student-Athlete Experience.

Earlier today I met with Coach Jen Hoover and she has been relieved from her position as our head women's basketball coach at Wake Forest. Coach Hoover is a lifelong Demon Deacon and we thank her, her husband John, and their daughter Maggie for their dedication to our women's basketball student-athletes over the past decade. She will always be a valued member of our community and an esteemed alumna.

Her accomplishments over the past 10 years include our only NCAA appearance since 1988, four trips to the WNIT, four runs to the ACC Tournament Quarterfinals, seven All-ACC honors, multiple All-America honors and multiple WNBA draft picks and outstanding academic accomplishments.

We wish Coach Hoover and her family all of the best in the next chapter of their lives and I know that Demon Deacons everywhere join me in saluting them for their service to the Winston-Salem community and to Wake Forest University.

Our student-athletes are always our top priority and when Coach Hoover and I met with the student-athletes, I thanked them for their continued commitment to Wake Forest and complimented them for a strong academic conclusion to the spring semester.

As we begin our search for our next head women's basketball coach we do so knowing that this is a program poised for success. Wake Forest's status as a top-30 university, the Atlantic Coast Conference and the city of Winston-Salem are an unrivaled combination. Additionally, the state-of-the-art Shah Basketball Complex, David Budd Gymnasium and the soon-to-be-completed Dr. Caryl Guth Women's Basketball Clubhouse provide our Demon Deacons basketball student-athletes with the best facility infrastructure in the country.

We are grateful for the contributions of our lone senior from last season, Christina Morra, who was just the third player in program history to be named to the Academic All-ACC team three times. She departs Wake Forest with a psychology degree as she embarks on a professional hoops career.

We have a strong core of returning student-athletes led by First Team All-ACC honoree Jewel Spear who topped the ACC in scoring. Her 90 three pointers ranked second in the ACC and is the second most in a single-season in program history. Upperclassmen Olivia Summiel and Kaia Harrison assumed new roles as captains alongside Spear and Morra. Summiel, who also serves as the ACC representative on the national S.A.A.C. board, had five games with double-digit rebounds including a career-high 14 rebounds in a win over in-state Charlotte. Harrison helped take the reins at the point guard position with four or more assists in four of the last 10 games of the season. Freshman guard Elise Williams finished second on the team in scoring with 9.5 points per game while also leading the Demon Deacons in assists (87) and steals (51).

A comprehensive search will begin immediately, and I will be in regular contact with President Susan R. Wente, Ph.D. throughout this process. We are intensely focused on hiring the best coach for Wake Forest.

At Wake Forest University, and with your continued generous support, we have all of the resources here for sustained women's basketball success. The emotional support and gifts of all our loyal supporters on an annual basis are why we are able to offer a World Class Student-Athlete Experience for all of our student-athletes.

Thanks for your loyal support of the Demon Deacons. Please stay safe, send your thoughts to wfuad@wfu.edu and Go Deacs!

Sincerely,

Currie Signature
