WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - For the second year in a row, the Wake Forest women's golf trio of Emilia Migliaccio, Rachel Kuehn and Lauren Walsh will be representing their countries at the Curtis Cup this week in Ardmore, Pennsylvania.
"I think it's really cool that Wake is so represented at the Curtis Cup," said Walsh. "Rachel and Emilia are two of my closest friends and we've practiced countless hours together over the last three years. It's nice to see our work pay off and have the opportunity to represent our countries. We're all great competitors and we're all excited to tee it up for our countries at the highest amateur level."
Migliaccio and Kuehn will be playing and defending the Team USA title while Walsh will be on the opposing Team GBI (Great Britain and Ireland). They join Brenda Corrie-Kuehn as the only Demon Deacons to compete for multiple Curtis Cup teams.
"Playing with Emilia and Lauren in the Curtis Cup has been one of my favorite golf memories," said Kuehn. "We are all so close and love each other so much that friendly competition makes our relationships stronger. Being teammates and playing with Emilia was something I enjoyed because I got to see her game in action. She is an incredible player and an even better teammate. Playing against Lauren was fun because we both had made it a goal to make the Curtis Cup and just being there was a win for both of us. We love to see each other play well and are always rooting for each other so our dynamic never changes. It's a special week and I'm excited to tee it up."
The 2022 Curtis Cup will be played June 10-12 at the Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pennsylvania. Team USA will be going for its third-consecutive title at the event, with wins coming in 2018 when Jennifer Kupcho was one the team and in 2021 with Kuehn and Migliaccio.
"Every time I think about the Curtis Cup at Merion Golf Club I get butterflies in my stomach," said Migliaccio. "It's a reminder of why I work so hard at golf. I love my country and I love playing for a team. This year is going to be interesting to see all the extra events and dinners we get to go to that we couldn't do in Wales because of COVID. I'm really looking forward to taking it all in this week."
With the event being played in 2021 and 2022, this is the first time ever it will be played in back-to-back years. The event in 2021 was originally scheduled for the summer of 2020 but was delayed due to COVID-19.
"The memories from last year are still so fresh in my mind it was extra motivation to get selected for this year's team at Merion," Walsh added. "We have six of our eight players returning from last year so it's exciting going into the week knowing we have a strong team that's ready to go. Given that the last Curtis Cup was played just a year ago it has given us such a good opportunity to stay connected and bonded as a team and it's special to have Elaine captain us once again."
