The Demon Deacons’ 2022 schedule features 11 regular season home matches including two against Big Four foes Duke and NC State.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Coming off a seventh-straight Sweet Sixteen appearance, Wake Forest men's soccer has announced the program's 2022 schedule featuring 11 home regular season matches at Spry Stadium including a pair of opening weekend matches against UCF and Air Force on Aug. 25-28, respectively.

"The 2022 schedule will once again be a challenging one for our program beginning with a season-opening weekend against perennial AAC power UCF and an Air Force squad coming off a 10-win campaign," said head coach Bobby Muuss. "The opportunity to play 11 of our matches in front of Deacon Nation, who has built up a distinct home field advantage at Spry over the years, is one we look forward to and we can't wait to compete in the best conference in the country."

The Demon Deacons will begin the season with a pair of non-conference matches at Spry against UCF (Aug. 25) and Air Force (Aug. 28).

The Knights won three-straight American Athletic Conference regular season titles from 2018-20 and the conference's tournament title during the 2020-21 season. The matchup with the Falcons, meanwhile, will be the first since a 1-0 victory on Sept. 11, 1992, as Air Force is coming off a 10-win campaign.

Wake Forest's first road matchup will be against UAB (Sept. 3) in the team's first-ever appearance in Birmingham followed by three-straight home matchups against Winthrop (Sept. 6), NC State (Sept. 10) for the ACC opener and Fairleigh Dickinson (Sept. 13). The Demon Deacons are currently riding a 20-match unbeaten streak against the Wolfpack dating back to a 1-0 victory at Spry on Oct. 21, 2006.

Two of the Deacs' next three matches will come on the road against ACC foes Virginia Tech (Sept. 16) and Clemson (Sept. 24) with a home contest against George Mason (Sept. 20) scheduled for midweek action.

Wake Forest will open play for the month of October with home dates against Duke (Oct. 1) and Jacksonville (Oct. 4). The Demon Deacons are unbeaten in their last six matches against the Blue Devils at Spry Stadium dating back to a 0-0 double overtime draw on Oct. 18, 2008, while the Dolphins most recently made the NCAA Tournament during the 2020-21 season as winners of the Atlantic Sun Tournament.

Following a pair of matches on the road at Syracuse (Oct. 7) and William & Mary (Oct. 11) the Demon Deacons will face Boston College (Oct. 15) and Wofford (Oct. 18) at home before closing out the season with a pair of conference contests, first at Virginia (Oct. 22) followed by the finale vs. Louisville (Oct. 28).

Sustained Success
Since the beginning of the 2015 season, Wake Forest (115) has won 10 more matches than any other NCAA Division I men's soccer program and is one of only two programs with more than 100 total wins over that span.

Wake Forest holds the nation's second-longest NCAA Tournament streak at 11-straight appearances, which is also five more than any other ACC school. The Demon Deacons have also reached the Sweet Sixteen seven-straight seasons, tied for the longest such streak in the country alongside Indiana.

Additionally, Wake Forest's 43 regular season victories in ACC play over the last seven seasons tops the conference, eclipsing North Carolina's 40 wins and Clemson's 34 wins.

Freshman Class Ranked Highly
For the seventh-straight season, the Demon Deacons are bringing in a top-10 nationally-ranked recruiting class, as the 2022 class is currently ranked No. 2 by TopDrawerSoccer.com. This comes after the 2021 class was ranked No. 1.

New to the Demon Deacons this year are mid-year enrollees Cooper Flax, Samuel Jones and Alec Kenison along with Vlad Walent, Devin Armstrong, Nico Rabiu and Aethan Yohannes along with transfer Sidney Paris, a 2021 All-Patriot League First-Team selection.

Flax (23), Walent (47) and Jones (53) are all ranked in the top-100 of the Club Soccer Rankings by IMG Academy and Flax is the highest-rated college commitment.
