The Demon Deacons season was highlighted by their conference record 19th ACC Championship as well as winning the New Haven NCAA Regional and the Old Town Club Collegiate Invitational.
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – An incredible Wake Forest men's golf season, highlighted by its conference record 19th ACC Championship as well as winning the New Haven NCAA Regional and the Old Town Club Collegiate Invitational, came to a close at the NCAA Championships Sunday afternoon at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
After qualifying for an ACC record 47th NCAA Championship, the No. 16 Demon Deacons tied for 19th on the leaderboard, missing the cut to 15 teams after three rounds of play.
For the second consecutive day, senior Alex Fitzpatrick had a strong round for the Deacs, carding a team-best 71 (+1) and he was 4-under-par over his final 36 holes of his collegiate career. Fitzpatrick, who captured an individual title as well as two runner-up finishes this season, is currently ranked No. 7 in both the WAGR and PGA Tour University Rankings.
He was also named as a Watch List Member for the Hogan Award.
Sophomore Michael Brennnan, who was a two-time individual tournament winner this year at the Old Town Club Collegiate and Colonial Collegiate, also shot 71 (+1) on Sunday afternoon at Grayhawk. He finished tied for 68th.
Freshman Scotty Kennon was the top finisher for the Deacs on the individual leaderboard, tying for 62nd over three rounds.
In addition to reaching the NCAA Championships, Wake Forest claimed three titles this season, winning the Old Town Club Collegiate Invitational, ACC Championship and New Haven NCAA Regional.
From Coach Haas
"Obviously disappointing how today ended, but we have a lot of positives that came out of this season from winning our 19th ACC Championship as a program and NCAA Regional to taking home the OTCCI title back in September. This was a special group of young men that myself and Coach Aaron have enjoyed watching them grow throughout the season. I also want to thank our seniors, Parker and Alex. Their commitment to Wake Forest over the past four and five years has been special. They are two incredible young men and I am excited for what's next for them." - Head Coach Jerry Haas
