WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The wait is over! The No. 19 Wake Forest football team is set for Opening Night at Truist Field presented by Pepsi against VMI on Thursday, Sept. 1 at 7:30 p.m. on ACC Network.
Over the last six seasons, Wake Forest is a perfect 6-0 in non-conference season openers with victories over Old Dominion (2022), Utah State (2019), Tulane (2018), Presbyterian (2017), Tulane (2016) and Elon (2015). Additionally, this marks the fourth-consecutive season the Demon Deacons will open up the season at home and the seventh time overall in the Dave Clawson era.
Overall, the Deacs hold a mark of 6-2 in home openers under Clawson.
In 2021, Wake Forest's 11-3 record marked the second time in program history that the program has won double-digit games, while winning the most league games (seven) in program history.
With Wake Forest's 38-10 Gator Bowl win over Rutgers, Clawson guided the Deacs to their fourth bowl victory, a new school record for bowl wins as a head coach.
