WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Deac2Deac podcast welcomed former Wake Forest corner, Reggie Austin, as a guest on the most recent episode. Austin played for the Demon Deacons from 1996 to 1999 before being drafted by the Chicago Bears in the fourth round of the 2000 NFL Draft.
The Atlanta native tallied nine interceptions and over 100 tackles over his four-year career in Winston-Salem. He started the final 22 games of his career and led the Deacs in pass breakups (9) and interceptions (6) during that time.
In 1999, he helped lead Wake Forest to its first winning record and bowl victory since 1992. The Deacs finished 7-5 that season and closed out the season with a 23-3 victory over Arizona State in the Aloha Classic.
After being drafted with the 125th overall pick, Austin made his NFL debut in 2001. He made nine appearances his rookie season in Chicago. The following year, he started four games and tallied two interceptions, five pass breakups and 21 tackles. He would retire from football a few years later after practice squad stints with Minnesota and Seattle.
