
Chavoshi Strike Leads Wake Forest Past Louisville, 1-0

The Demon Deacons ended the regular season unbeaten at Spry Stadium for the first time since 2007.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Behind a stellar defensive effort, the Wake Forest women's soccer team earned a 1-0 victory over Louisville Sunday evening in the Demon Deacons' regular-season home finale at Spry Stadium.
With the win, the Demon Deacons (9-2-5, 3-2-4 ACC) ended the regular season unbeaten at home for the first time since 2007. Additionally, Sunday's win marked the Deacs' first win over Louisville since 2015.
Of note, Wake Forest can clinch a berth to the ACC Tournament with a win against Miami Thursday in the regular-season finale.
In the 29th minute Sunday, sophomore forward Caiya Hanks broke free down the pitch, before being taken down by a Louisville defender – which resulted in the Cardinals being assessed a red card.
On the free kick, junior defender Zara Chavoshi fired a strike past Louisville's keeper to give the Deacs a 1-0 lead. With a player-up for the remainder of the contest, Wake Forest controlled possession and coasted to the 1-0 victory.
Defensively, the Demon Deacons allowed only two shots, with just one coming on frame. Junior goalkeeper Payton Cahill recorded her third-career shutout and remained unbeaten over her six career starts (3-0-3).
Individually, seven Demon Deacons recorded a shot Sunday as junior midfielder Malaika Meena led the Deacs with two.
