WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest Athletics will honor 32 football players, 14 members of the Spirit of the Old Gold & Black, 19 Deacs from the Spirit Squads and five student staffers on Saturday before the football game.
"Our senior class, what can I say," head coach Dave Clawson said. "They have been a part of one of the most magical rides that I have ever experienced in my coaching career. The examples they have set for our players, our students and our entire Athletics department, I am beyond proud. It's been an unbelievable honor to be their coach over the past four, five, six, and in one case, seven years. We love these guys and we're proud that they are all Deacs. I want to thank them for representing Wake Forest University with such class."
"Senior day is a celebration of the accomplishments and incredible experiences in the careers of Wake Forest students as members of the football team, Spirit of the Old Gold and Black, spirit squads and support groups," said director of athletics John Currie. "With Coach Clawson's guidance, these 32 football student-athletes have achieved new heights and raised the standard of excellence across our entire University. Together, our players, band & spirit squad members, and student staffers have inspired all of Deacon Nation and brought our entire community together every gameday in Allegacy Stadium. We encourage all fans to arrive early for Saturday afternoon's special pregame ceremony! Additionally, stay on the lookout for our halftime ceremony with our members of the Spirit of the Old Gold & Black, Spirit Squads and our student football staff members."
Several football student-athletes being honored on Saturday have completed or will complete their degrees in December 2023 or May 2024, but have remaining eligibility. Following the season, those individuals will assess the potential of returning for the 2024 season.
