Bates III does it again and Turner continues to shine.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The end of the NFL regular season is fast-approaching with just five weeks remaining to secure a spot in the postseason as several Demon Deacons are helping their teams make the final push. Here is how our #ProDeacs performed during the slate of week 13 matchups.
Bates III Forces Another
For the second-consecutive week, safety Jessie Bates III recorded a huge interception while also leading the team in tackles with seven. His strong performance helped secure a 13-8 victory over the New York Jets as Atlanta took full control of the NFC South.
His interception took place with under a minute to go in the third quarter, as Bates III picked out an overthrown ball from Jets quarterback Tim Boyle at the Atlanta 32-yard line for his fifth pick of the season.
After 13 weeks, the 2018 second-round pick ranks third in the NFL in interceptions, trailing only DaRon Bland of the Cowboys (eight) and Geno Stone of the Ravens (six). Additionally, since entering the league in 2018, he is tied for the seventh-most interceptions in the NFL at 19. Bates III is tied with Bland for the most forced turnovers in the league this season with eight.
This season, he leads the Falcons in total tackles (92), interceptions (five) and forced fumbles (three). He is currently rated as the third-best safety in the NFL and second-best in the NFC by ProFootballFocus with a 90.4 defensive grade, just 0.8 behind Jevon Holland (Miami) and Antonie Winfield Jr. (Tampa Bay).
Conducting the Turnaround
The Los Angeles Rams are back to .500 (6-6) and are now in the hunt for a playoff spot after three-consecutive wins, including the most recent 36-19 victory over the Cleveland Browns. Rookie Kobie Turner has played a major role in the Rams' success this season. The Conductor has posted the second-highest defensive PFF grade (73.6) on the team and the second-most sacks (5.5), trailing only Aaron Donald.
Over the last two weeks, he has tallied nine tackles and 3.5 sacks, including back-to-back sacks and a forced safety to seal the victory late in the fourth quarter against the Browns. His 73.6 PFF grade this season is the fourth-highest among all rookies that have played a minimum 400 snaps. Additionally, his 5.5 sacks rank first out of the entire rookie class.
Turner and the Rams will look to continue their winning streak against the Ravens in Baltimore this Sunday at 1 p.m. on FOX.
