Coach Aaron O’Callaghan named Co-Assistant Coach for 2024 Team International

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Lyons Family Associate Head Coach Aaron O'Callaghan was named the Co-Assistant Coach for Team International at the 2024 Arnold Palmer Cup. The Arnold Palmer Cup will be held at Lahinch Golf Club in Ireland from July 5-7, 2024.

Since joining Wake Forest in 2018, O'Callaghan has led the Demon Deacon men's golf program to enormous success alongside head coach Jerry Haas. In his first season in Winston-Salem, the Deacs won five team titles, the most team wins in a season since the 1983-84 season.

Under the direction of Coach O'Callaghan, the Demon Deacons have claimed 14 team titles during his time as assistant coach. Most notably, O'Callaghan and the Wake Forest men's golf team captured the program's 18th ACC Championship in the spring of 2022. During the 2022 New Haven Regional, the Deacs set a program record score en route to claiming the regional championship.

Coach O'Callaghan has coached 11 golfers to individual titles at Wake Forest over the last six seasons. Most recently, 2022 Arnold Palmer Cup golfer Michael Brennan claimed the Chicago Highlands Invitational title for his seventh individual title. The achievement moved Brennan fourth on the list of all-time individual titles at Wake Forest.

Last season, Brennan claimed the ACC Individual Championship, marking the first time since 2008 that a Demon Deacon earned the honor when Webb Simpson finished in first place. During the 2022 season, O'Callaghan also coached the Deacs to back-to-back ACC Championship Finals appearances.

This year, O'Callaghan has also made four top-25 finishes as a player. O'Callaghan finished tied for third at the South Carolina Open and tied for second at the Carolinas Open. Most recently, he claimed the CPGA Match Play Championship at Myers Park Country Club.

The first game of golf was played at Lahinch Golf Club during April of 1892. Since then, the course has thrived and hosted numerous golf icons. Lahinch has played host to The South of Ireland Championship since 1895. Most commonly referred to as "The South," the tournament is an open amateur event and the oldest provincial golf championship in Ireland.

The Arnold Palmer Cup is a match play tournament held between Team USA and Team International. The match play tournament consists of two teams of 12 golfers. Each team consists of six golfers selected using the Arnold Palmer Cup Rankings, five golfers are selected by a committee and one golfer is selected by the coach.

The Arnold Palmer Cup has extended invitations to many successful young golfers over the course of its history. Sixty-four former Arnold Palmer Cup golfers have gone one to 284 victories across the PGA, European or LPGA Tours.
