INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Fresh off earning ACC Player of the Week honors on Monday (Feb. 13), Tyree Appleby has also earned national recognition as the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) Oscar Roberston National Player of the Week, announced by the association on Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 14)

Appleby is the second Demon Deacon to earn the honor since its start in 2009. Alondes Williams was named the USBWA National Player of the Week during the 2021-22 season.

The 6-0 graduate guard from Jacksonville, Ark., scored a season-high 35 points and added 11 assists and seven rebounds in a 92-85 win over North Carolina last Tuesday. In the game, he also eclipsed the 2,000-point mark for his career as Wake Forest beat the Tar Heels for a third straight time in Winston-Salem.

As part of the 35-point outburst, Appleby set ACC records for free throws made (23) and attempted (28), breaking a pair of records that had stood since the 1950s. Appleby followed up on Saturday by scoring the winning points from the free throw line in a 71-70 home win over Georgia Tech. He played all 40 minutes, scored 16 points and added six assists. His two free throws with 2.3 seconds left provided the margin of victory for the Demon Deacons.

For the week, Appleby averaged 25.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 8.5 assists and 1.5 steals.

Appleby and the Deacs are back in action this weekend when they travel to Miami to face the Hurricanes on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 17) in the Watsco Center at 2 p.m. ET. The game will air live on regional Bally Sports networks.
