Deacs in Contention into Final Day of Battle at Briar’s Creek

The Demon Deacons have five players in the top 25 heading into the final day of competition.
JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. – When play was suspended due to darkness on Monday evening, the Wake Forest men's golf team was playing some of its best golf as a team as they were on pace to be five strokes better than the opening round.
The Demon Deacons had half of the 10 players finish the opening round tied for 24th or better with senior Mark Power ending the day as the top player for the team. As a team, Wake Forest is just eight strokes off the lead and climbing. The Deacs are currently in fifth.
With the help of a strong start to the day, Power was tied for the lead after the opening round. The Kilkenny, Ireland native carded an opening round 69 (-3) and was as low as 4-under-par late into the round. In the second round, he was even par and tied for fifth on the individual leaderboard with three holes to play in his round.
The other under-par round for the Demon Deacons in the first came from fellow senior Daniel Sheedy. Sheedy, who is playing as an individual this week, posted a 2-under score in the first round and is currently tied for 13th.
Junior Micahel Brennan, freshman Boyd Owens and Andrew McLaughlan are all tied for 24th on the individual at 2-over-par.
Wake Forest will finish its remaining holes tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m. before going into the third round of competition.

"We have a couple holes to play and can still pick up a few birdies. We will be in the same group starting shotgun tomorrow at 8:30. We are making lots of birdies but need to clean it up a little bit. We are looking forward to tomorrow's last round." head coach Jerry Haas
