The Demon Deacons moved up two spots in the final round of Wake Forest Invitational while having five players place in the top 25 individually.

PINEHURST, N.C. – The Wake Forest men's golf team pushed themselves up the leaderboard in the final round of the Wake Forest Invitational Tuesday afternoon at historic Pinehurst No. 2.

The Demon Deacons tied for the lowest score on the course in the final round, passing Duke and NC State along the way. The Deacs nearly moved into the top three finishing one stroke back of No. 15 Virginia, tying with Iowa for fourth place.

Wake Forest was led by a strong round from sophomore Marshall Meisel. He was one of just four players in the entire field to be under par, finishing the afternoon with his best round of the tournament at 69 (-1). Meisel rose up 17 spots on the leaderboard with the help of the round, the second-highest riser individually Tuesday.

The Chevy Chase, Md. native got his day off to a fast start, birding the first three holes and hitting the turn at 3-under-par. He was as low as 4-under during the round and posted the lowest round for the team over the final two days and was the second-lowest round by a Demon Deacon during the tournament.

The Deacs had five players finish in the top 25 with junior Michael Brennan and freshman Andrew McLauchlan posting top-10 finishes. This is the third consecutive top-10 finish for Brennan this spring. Additionally, Brennan now has 14 top-10 finished in 28 career starts in his three-year career at Wake Forest.

Sophomore Scotty Kennon placed inside of the top 20 for the second-consecutive tournament, finishing 17th while junior Clay Stirsman finished one stroke back of Kennon, tying for 18th.

Senior Mark Power moved up three spots with the help of his final round and tied for 22nd individually.
